Good Friday Tenebrae Service ~ April 15th @ 7:00 PM
The purpose of the Tenebrae service is to recreate the emotional aspects of the passion story. Please come and be a part of this remembrance as we recreate the betrayal, abandonment, and agony of the events surrounding Christ’s Passion. The service holds powerful emotional content, but is left unfinished, because the story isn’t over until Easter Day.
The word ‘tenebrae’ is Latin for shadows. Our Tenebrae service will start out with the church in candlelight. There are as many candles as there are readings and music, plus a white Christ candle. The candles will be extinguished one-by-one as the scriptures are read, until only the Christ candle remains. The shadows will grow as the lights are dimmed. Have you considered that the debt which we owe to our Lord and Savior can never be repaid? Won’t you please consider giving up one night to come and experience His sacrifice for us?
