Preparing Our Hearts and Minds

Maundy Thursday Communion Service

As followers of Jesus Christ, we are asked to remember what He did for us on the cross, and we are encouraged to gather as a community of faith on a regular basis and celebrate the memorial meal He instituted on our behalf. When ministers lead the prayers at a Communion service, they remind people that “on the night He was betrayed, He took bread into His hands, gave thanks, and broke the bread, giving it to His disciples and saying take and eat, this is my body, given for you. As often as you eat this, do so in remembrance of me.”

Please join the other members and friends of Calvary Church in the Fellowship Hall on Thursday, April 17th at 7:00 PM for a time of worship and remembrance this Maundy Thursday. We will worship our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and receive the spiritual meal which He has prepared for us. All are welcome at this time of worship and remembrance, and we hope you will join the congregation in this expression of our faith.

Child care will be available.

Good Friday Tenebrae Service ~ April 18th, 7:00 PM

The purpose of the Tenebrae service is to recreate the emotional aspects of the passion story.  Please come and be a part of this remembrance as we recreate the betrayal, abandonment, and agony of the events surrounding Christ’s Passion. The service holds powerful emotional content, but is left unfinished, because the story isn’t over until Easter Day.  This service is comprised of eight parts, each one based on a scripture reading and a musical piece presented by Calvary’s Senior Choir and soloists and intended to help set the mood of the events being described.

The word ‘tenebrae’ is Latin for shadows.  Our Tenebrae service will start out with the church in candlelight. There are as many candles as there are readings and music, plus a white Christ candle. The candles will be extinguished one-by-one as the scriptures are read, until only the Christ candle remains. The shadows will grow as the lights are dimmed. Have you considered that the debt which we owe to our Lord and Savior can never be repaid?  Won’t you please consider giving up one night to come and experience His sacrifice for us?

Child care will be available.

TRANSPORTATION is available for those who request it.  Please call the church office at 610-777-8441 on or before April 15th to schedule.
