Pigs and Chickens

The difference between involvement and commitment is like ham and eggs. The chicken is involved, while the pig is committed. Autumn is traditionally the time when churches focus on Stewardship. Calvary’s Stewardship Sunday will be held on November 8th. Interestingly, the ancient Britons’ literal translation of the word “steward” was “keeper of the pigs.” The village steward was responsible for the care and feeding of the animals who would ultimately make the sacrifice to nourish the community.

We are all called by God to be good stewards of the gifts with which we have been blessed. In our membership vows to the church, we promise to commit our time, talents, and gifts to further the work of the church. To help you solidify your commitment in the gifts department, the Stewardship Team has created a 3 pronged challenge to the congregation.

1. You should have recently received your quarterly contribution statement from the financial secretary. If you are currently behind on your gifts we would urge you to catch up by November 8.

2. Please prayerfully consider your 2016 estimate of giving and come prepared on November 8th to present that estimate of giving card in that day’s offering.

3. We challenge you to commit to a “mini tithe.” If you will tithe your gross income (give 10% back to God) for the last 6 weeks of the year most of our financial shortfall will disappear. If you already tithe, thank you very much. You are not only one of Calvary’s major supporters, but are also heeding scripture as stated in Malachi 3:10. We know this may be a big financial step for some, but we also believe that it is not only possible, but necessary if you are serious about deepening your commitment to your faith.

To help celebrate both your involvement and commitment to Calvary church and the Lord’s work, we invite you to join us for breakfast appetizers of ham & eggs and Danish in the Gathering Area on November 8th at 10AM between the services.
