An Important Message

To the saints of Calvary Church Mohnton:

Grace to you and peace from God our Creator and the Lord Jesus Christ. I am in ceaseless prayer for each of you and for the healing of the world. I want to assure you that Calvary remains ever-present in its faithful ministry to our families and the community, by the grace of God alone. Our faith in the steadfast love of Creator God is the rock and refuge on which we must stand foremost. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” (Proverbs 3:5).

I awoke in the darkness of the early morning, twirling in my childhood dining room in upstate New York. As a young child, I enjoyed spinning and spinning. When I tried to stand still, it felt as if the world was spinning beneath me. I lost my balance, laughing hysterically as I tossed and fell to the ground. It was a delightful game. The earth is always spinning beneath us, and our bodies have overcome this constant to allow us to first stand still and eventually to walk, run, and leap. As I learned from this childhood game, when we add to that which is already spinning, it is disorienting. We tumble and fall. In this new landscape of a hurting and shifting world, we have to learn to stand still before we can walk, run, and leap.

Our staff convened yesterday to discern how Calvary will respond to the Covid-19 pandemic and the essential requirement of isolation. We are heeding the recommendations; therefore, no worship or church activities will be held until further notice. However, the ministry of this church will continue, for God’s grace is essential to the healing of the disease, fear, and despair in these fragile, uncertain times. Calvary Church, you are prepared to do what God asks of us; you are enough just as you are. For the moment, let us stand still in who we are and be the house of prayer, the caring people we are, and a source of grace to our community.

In order to maintain the health and safety of everyone, our primary modes of connection will be telephone, mail, email, and our website. It is important for those able to visit the church website at for regular updates. Here are three things we can do together this week:

1) CONNECT. Connect with one another and with one or two neighbors. Commit to calling, texting, or emailing people, especially those who are now isolated. Calvary Church will be calling all members with the intent to establish a regular system to keep us connected.
2) PRAY. On Sunday, March 29th, let us commit to a 24-hour prayer wheel for those infected by Covid-19, all their medical workers and caregivers, and everyone worldwide seeking ways to minimize the impact of this virus. Maybe you are a night owl or an early riser; help us continue our ministry of prayer in the safety of your home. Watch for an email inviting you to participate in the prayer vigil or simply plan for your own time to commit to prayer.
3) WORSHIP. On Sundays, we will be posting an online form of worship. We can share in the scripture, message, and music together. Give your heart to the God who loves you!

Faithful servants, this is God’s heed for us to stand still, as a sabbath. Jesus offered us the greatest commandment: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” Before we take new steps into the changing landscape that lies ahead, let us first stand still here. Let us remember who we are, Calvary Church. May this be our focus: Love God. Love one another.

God’s Peace be with you~

    Pastor Tamie,
That night in the hospital, when you accepted Jesus, did you ever imagine He’d lead you to this point in time! I for one, am so glad that He did. You are so well equipped, by Him, for the task at hand!
Blessings to you, Frank, and the kids.
